Are any of you experiencing the homeschool winter slump right now?
The holidays are over, Weather prevents most outdoor activities for many of us. Spring seems so far away. Colds seem to be shared better than anything else in the home. If you are new to homeschooling, don't worry, this is normal. It happens to all of us, whether you have homeschooled for one year or 20+ years
February can be a tough month, for many of us - but it doesn’t have to be!
These are just a few of our own ideas and ones we have gathered from other homeschool moms.
Put down the school books for a day or more and learn with movies.
Add some music. Music Lessons for Holidays and Specials Days
Or maybe some art! (Free classes)
Take field trips! This is the perfect time to take your family on field trips right from the comfort of your own home.
Make February a "hands-on only" learning month. You'll find great ideas on our Fun Ideas for Your Kids, Homeschool Science and Active Learning Pinterest boards.
February is also an excellent time to plan a family vacation. Most children are in school so places are less crowded. You will receive off-season prices (as long as you don't go during Presidents day weekend) And you get a break from the winter slump!
Pick a book and have a family book club. Discuss characters, plot, and themes together. Choose a great book that is just fun to read, not because you need to read it for school, but because it is just downright entertaining for all who read and who listen. Snuggle up with the kids on the couch and enjoy!
What do you do to "survive" these long days with your children?
Help our homeschool community by giving us your best ideas in the comment section below.
Enjoying the journey,
~Michelle~
