Playing with Plays: Shakespeare Like You've Never Seen It Before!

Playing with Plays is one of the best ideas I have seen for introducing children and youth to Shakespeare and other well known playwrights. Most students are not interested in learning about Shakspeare, let alone reading one of his plays! This will change if you take part in Playing with Plays! 

These melodramatic plays are 15- 20 minutes long and each book includes scripts for three group sizes for 8-22+ actors. Although these are very short interpretations of the actual plays, there are actual lines......

TO CELEBRATE ITS CENTENNIAL YEAR, THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE WILL BE WAIVING ENTRANCE FEES ON 16 DAYS IN 2016.

National Park Service’s 100th birthday weekend is almost here August 25-28!

The National Park Service was founded on Aug. 25, 1916, and since then, 84 million acres comprising of 409 sites — 58 of which are national parks — have been established across the U.S., according to the organization’s website.

"The parks, monuments, recreation areas, battlefields and seashores collectively contain more than 18,000 miles of trails, 27,000 historic and prehistoric structures and 247 species of endangered and threatened wildlife."

Encourage Your Boys to Read with Great Books That They Will Love

Do your boys struggle with reading?  If so, you are not alone. It’s a fact; boys don’t read as much as girls and this reading gender gap is affecting boys’ performance in school and beyond.  So how can you encourage boys to read? It will take some trial and error, and possibly research on the parents’ part.

 Tips for encouraging boys to read:

 1. Read with them.

This should start when they are toddlers. Toddlers will quickly learn that books are fun, pretty, and colorful. All toddlers benefit from the time a loving parent spends reading to him or her.
